The theory and simulations presented are valid for any technique that relies on the combination of dispersion/phase modulation/dispersion for spectral phase encoding. We perform a theoretical study of the system, characterizing its main limiting factors, and a comparative study of the Multi-Access Interference (MAI) and Bit Error Rate (BER) for a simple multi-user system at high-bit rate in a Passive Optical Network (PON) environment. The capacity of the system to carry out error-free operation for codes of different length and with different numbers of users is also demonstrated through simulation. 2008 Elsevier B.V. In this paper we present an in-depth review on the trends and the directions taken by the researchers worldwide in Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. We highlight those trends and features that are believed to be essential to the successful introduction of various OCDMA techniques in communication systems and data networks in near future. In particular we begin by giving a c...
متن کاملExperimental Demonstration of Optical Fast Frequency Hopping-CDMA Communications
Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a highly flexible multiple access protocol, however, significant signal bandwidth expansion is required. Given the Terahertz pass band of optical fiber, the frequency spreading of the CDMA signal is no impediment, provided it can be accomplished optically. Among wide variants of optical CDMA techniques, only a spectral encoding based approach [1] has pene...
متن کاملExperimental Analysis of Receiver Performance of Optical CDMA System Using DPSK and OOK Modulation Through Balanced Detection and Optical Thresholding Techniques
In this paper, the performance of optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system is studied using differential phase shift keying (DPSK) with balanced detection (BD) and optical thresholding. For the OCDMADPSK receiver, the performance parameters (i) bit error rate (BER), (ii) receiver sensitivity and (iii) spectral efficiency for asynchronous multiple access network are evaluated and com...
